The shortfall of homes in the UK, and the calls to Government to make more funding available for social housing along with the skills shortage and threat of rising costs of materials means it is a sector that presents both challenge and opportunity. An analysis of the National Infrastructure & Construction Projects by the IPA states that the government expects to more than double, in real terms, its annual capital spending on housing over the course of this Parliament. New funding including a £2.3 billion Housing Infrastructure Fund funded by the NPIF will deliver infrastructure to support the delivery of up to 100,000 homes and an additional £1.4 billion funded by the NPIF investment in affordable housing to deliver 40,000 new affordable homes. With planning consents on new build homes rising to almost 322,000 in June, it’s a sector ripe for growth.
